Asarone, which includes alpha (trans) and beta (cis) types, is an ether found in certain plants such as acorus and asarum.[2] Asarone is a possible precursor in the synthesis of the psychedelic phenethylamine TMA-2. As a volatile fragrance oil, it is used in killing pests and bacteria.[citation needed] Diseases that can be treated using drugs mixed with this compound include diphtheria, typhoid and tuberculosis.[citation needed]
