Corn kernels are readily available in bulk throughout maize producing areas. However, the price has increased since January 2006 when a bushel cost $2.20. As of July 2008, a bushel of corn in the Midwest US cost $5.75[1]. This has decreased its appeal as a pelletized fuel. Pelletized fuels are used for corn and pellet stoves and furnaces. Corn kernels are a natural pellet, which gives them a huge economic advantage over other man-made biomass pellets and wood pellets. Transportation and packaging of dried clean corn kernels to non-producing areas will add to the price.
