Paul Lucas is the Deputy Premier of Queensland, Minister for Infrastructure and Planning and member for Lytton. Qualified as a lawyer, Lucas worked as a solicitor before entering Parliament in 1996 at a by-election for the seat of Lytton, vacated by former Deputy Premier Tom Burns.
Lucas was appointed to Cabinet in 2001 as Minister for Innovation and Information Economy. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Premier, he was also Minister for Transport and Main Roads. Lucas was once under investigation for electoral malpractice in the Shepherdson Inquiry, but he was not charged with any wrongdoing.
When Lucas was Minister for Transport, he was issued a speeding ticket which his driver paid for due to a supposed mix-up, attracting much attention from the media and the public.[1]
